Collection methods

Different collection methods apply for different genders

Urine sample

Urine samples are available for males only. Urine samples are not available for women as vaginal swabs are more accurate.

Vaginal swab

Vaginal swabs are available for women and those with a vagina. These offer a higher level of accuracy than a urine sample alone.

Blood sample

Some of our STI test kits include a blood sample to test for HIV, syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. This is done by collecting a small sample of blood from the tip of your finger, known as a fingerprick test.

About flexible subscriptions

How does a subscription work?

When you purchase this test subscription plan, we will automatically send you another test kit in a few months. Don't worry - you have full control over when this will be, and you can change/cancel it anytime.

When you first purchase this test, you can choose your subscription options in the checkout. We do this, because we recommend taking multiple tests over time to track how your biomarkers change. You'll be charged per test kit (rather than monthly, for example).

Why subscribe to multiple tests?

One test will show you what areas you need to focus on, continued testing will help you learn how your training, diet and lifestyle is impacting your health.

How often should I test?

We recommend a follow up test 3 months after your first test, followed by a test every 6 months depending on your results, but its up to you!

Can I change what's tested in future tests?

Yes, you can tailor/customise subsequent tests (via your app) to focus on just the areas that need improving.

How accurate are at-home STI tests?

All of our tests are the same as those used by the NHS and your results will be analysed in gold-standard laboratories, ensuring they are as accurate as possible. Please be sure to carefully follow the step-by-step instructions in your STI kit.

Vaginal swabs are generally more sensitive than urine samples for detecting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in women, and are recommended in these cases. Pooled sensitivity estimates from large scale studies show that vaginal swabs picked up an infection in 94.1% (95% CI, 93.2%-94.9%) of cases vs only 86.9% (95% CI, 85.6%-88.0%) for urine specimens (P <. 001).

How often should you get checked?

We recommend getting tested every 3-12 months to keep yourself safe and free from sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia and gonorrhoea. However, you may want to get tested more often, depending on your sexual activity.

It can take 3 weeks or more for the symptoms of syphilis to appear after you’re infected[1] and 2-6 weeks for HIV[2].
