Collecting your sample at home with the Tasso Autodraw device is straightforward. Follow the steps below, or watch our video for a full walkthrough from start to finish.

How to video

Before you begin

A few simple things can make a real difference to your sample quality.

1.Check your lab form

Some tests include specific timing instructions. Make sure you've read yours before you start. Only collect and post your sample Monday to Thursday, so it reaches the lab in time.

2.Read all instructions first

Take a few minutes to read the full process before you begin. It'll help you get everything ready and feel confident going in.

3.Drink water

Drink a large glass of water at least 30 minutes before collecting. Good hydration makes blood flow easier and is one of the most important things you can do for a successful collection.

4.Prepare your skin

Wash hands icon

Wash your hands thoroughly. If there's excess hair on your upper arm, remove it so the device can adhere securely.

5.Warm up collection area

Use the heat pack provided and rub it over the collection area for around two minutes. Warming the skin can help improve blood flow.

6.Be warm and relaxed

Being calm and comfortable can help with circulation and overall success. Position yourself somewhere warm and avoid collecting your sample if you feel cold or tense.

How to collect a blood sample using the AutoDraw?

1.

Attach the tube

Remove the device from the packaging and firmly insert the collection tube. When the device is on your arm, the fill line on the tube should be visible.

2.

Activate heat pack

Activate the heat pack and rub it over the collection area for around two minutes.

3.

Clean the area

Use the alcohol wipe to clean the collection area, then allow the skin to dry fully before placing the device.

4.

Position the device

Remove the clear cover from the red button and peel back the adhesive tab. Place the device firmly on your upper arm until it feels secure.

5.

Start collection

Press the red button firmly once until you hear a click. Set a timer for five minutes and keep your arm down by your side throughout.

6.

Check Fill level

If your kit includes a yellow tube, fill to the 600 line. If it includes a purple tube, fill to the 250 line. Use a mirror if needed to check.

7.

Remove the device

Once no more blood is being collected (or if full), peel the device away from your arm using a gentle twist and downward pull.

8.

Mix the sample

Secure the cap on the tube until you hear a click. Then invert the tube 10 times. Do not shake.

9.

Label your sample

Secure the cap on the tube until you hear a click. Invert the tube ten times to mix. Do not shake.

10.

Complete lab form

Fill in the lab request form, making sure the name on the form matches the person who provided the sample. If your blood collection tube includes an activation code, usually shown at the top right or inside the packaging, activate it before returning your sample.

11.

Prepare your return

Attach the return address label to the envelope. Place the specimen pouch and lab form into the box, seal it, and put the box into the return envelope.

12.

Post it back

Make a note of your tracking number. Post your sample back on the same day, before the final Royal Mail collection.
