63% of women and 42% of men had ferritin levels outside the "healthy" range

The importance of immune health

A weak immune system can leave you vulnerable to frequent colds, infections, and slow recovery times. But how do you know if your immune system is functioning properly? Our immune system blood test can identify key imbalances, helping you take action before illness strikes.

We looked at thousands of blood test results in February 2025 and our data shows that many people have low Vitamin B12 and ferritin levels, both essential for a strong immune response.

Around 33% of women and 21% of men have suboptimal B12 levels, which can lead to fatigue, brain fog, and weakened immunity.

Ferritin data revealed almost two-thirds of women (63.7%) and 42% of men had levels outside the “healthy” range. Consistently low ferritin (iron) levels can lead to poor energy levels and frequent illness, making it an important area for improvement.

A simple immune system blood test allows you to check for these key markers, helping you identify deficiencies and track your immune health over time. By understanding what your body needs, you can take targeted steps through diet, supplements, or lifestyle changes to strengthen your immune system and stay healthier for longer.

Dr Thom Philips, Head of Clinical Services, Forth

There are a number of causes of low albumin including both medical and lifestyle factors. The most common cause is linked to nutrition, particularly a lack of protein in the diet. Other causes include liver and kidney function changes, smoking, reduced muscle mass and low physical activity and exercise.

Frequently asked questions

This is what our customers ask us about the most. For more information, try our help centre.

Can I check my immune system at home?

Yes, you can check your immune system at home with our fingerprick blood test kit or you can have a trained nurse visit your home to collect the blood for you.

You can choose your collection method once you add the test to your basket.

How accurate is the immune health test?

Our immune system blood test is conducted in accredited UK labs that meet the highest clinical standards. Each biomarker is tested using state-of-the-art technology, ensuring high accuracy and reliability. Results are reviewed by medical professionals, giving you a clear and precise assessment of your immune health.

What does this test check?

This test measures key biomarkers that indicate how well your immune system is functioning. It includes:

  • White blood cell count – essential for fighting infections
  • Inflammatory markers (hs-CRP) – to check for underlying inflammation
  • Vitamin D, B12 & Ferritin (Iron Storage) – crucial for supporting immune function

What causes low immune health?

A weak immune system can be influenced by several lifestyle, dietary, and medical factors. Some of the most common causes include:

  • Nutrient deficiencies – Low levels of Vitamin D, B12, and iron (ferritin) can impair immune cell function, making it harder for your body to fight infections.
  • Chronic stress and lack of sleep – High stress hormones and poor sleep disrupt the immune response, increasing susceptibility to illness.
  • Unhealthy diet and lifestyle – Diets low in essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants weaken immune defences, while smoking and excessive alcohol can suppress immune function.
  • Underlying health conditions – Autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and chronic infections can impact immune strength.
  • Menstrual blood loss can lead to low ferritin (iron storage) levels, reducing red blood cell production and weakening immunity.
  • Pregnancy and postpartum changes can temporarily lower immune defences due to hormonal shifts.

Can I fix a weak immune system?

Yes! Many factors affecting immunity can be improved with lifestyle changes. Addressing nutrient deficiencies, improving sleep, reducing stress, and eating a balanced diet can strengthen your immune system. This test provides insights to help you make targeted changes and track progress over time.

How can this test help me?

A blood test to check your immune system helps you understand if you have key nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, or an underlying issue affecting your immunity. By identifying areas for improvement, you can take proactive steps to support your immune health, reduce illness frequency, and improve overall well-being.

You’ll get goals tailored to your specific needs to help you set a wellness journey that suits you.

When will I get my results?

You’ll receive your immune system blood test results within 2 working days after your sample reaches our lab. Your report includes detailed biomarker analysis, an optional doctor’s comment, and easy-to-understand insights into your immune health.

How soon will the test arrive?

Once you place your order, your test kit will be dispatched the same day (if ordered before 3 pm on weekdays) via Royal Mail Tracked-24, meaning you should receive it within 1-2 days.

What is a health score?

Your health score is a personalised rating based on your test results. Scores range from 0 (poor) to 100 (excellent). It helps you understand how well your immune system is functioning and highlights any areas that may need improvement. Tracking your health score over time allows you to monitor progress and make informed health decisions.

Health sores are included at no extra cost and can be viewed in our app.

How often should I check my immune health?

We recommend taking an immune system blood test every 6 months to monitor changes and track improvements in your immune health. Regular testing allows you to see if nutrient levels, inflammation markers, and immune function are improving based on any lifestyle or dietary changes you make.

If you have a weakened immune system, frequent infections, or underlying health conditions, more frequent testing (every 3-6 months) may be beneficial. This helps you stay on top of deficiencies, inflammation, and overall immune performance so you can take proactive steps to strengthen your defences.

Is your packaging discreet?

Yes, all of our test kits are sent in plain, unbranded packaging for complete privacy. There are no logos or markings that indicate the contents, ensuring a discreet and confidential delivery. Your test results are also stored securely in your online account, accessible only to you.
