Find out how Andrew uses regular blood testing to monitor and optimise his health.

My GP would only do a blood test if they suspected a problem and would rarely share the full results with comparisons on my previous tests or even voluntarily give me a copy of the results for reference. Test results took time and I could never get an appointment even if I did get through on the telephone. Although I felt fit and healthy I was interested in if any areas were close to high/low limits.
I felt normal but approaching an age where I felt I should be monitoring any changes and being proactive. In addition I have to have private medical every 2 years for my job and so wanted to monitor without any potential adverse results appearing on my NHS record.
Surprisingly my results were all in the normal range and I have now had the same test 6 times over the past 3 years so I can see the trends. As I expected my Cholesterol was in the high range and so I am now more conscious about what I eat. It was very reassuring to see almost every other marker in the normal range and trending well too.
Diet mainly and realising the importance more of exercise as I get older. Started to take a supplement for lowering cholesterol as I want to stay off of all medication for as long as possible.
Reassured and in control. I have a higher interest in the effects of different types of food on my wellbeing. I find the subscription plan for testing every 6 months is good discipline for me throughout the year as I do not want to see my results going downhill.
Test kits are really easy to use especially on the 2nd/3rd test onwards. I will always take my test on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning and make sure I post by 9.00am same day. For all 6 of my tests I have had my results and feedback within 36-48 hours from posting which is fantastic.
Go for it! You can tailor the tests if you wish or like me just go with what they suggest. Using the results and feedback you can make an informed choice as to whether to then contact your GP or your private health company.
For a general health check, the most useful blood tests look across several systems at once: full blood count, cholesterol and lipids, blood sugar (HbA1c), liver health and key vitamins and minerals. Forth's Baseline Health Blood Test covers these in a single at-home kit, measuring 25 biomarkers across liver health, cholesterol, blood sugar, vitamins (B12 and D), minerals (including iron/ferritin), inflammation, full blood count and sex hormones. You collect a small finger-prick sample at home, post it back in the included tracked envelope, and results are reviewed by a doctor and returned in the Forth app within around two working days, analysed in UKAS-accredited, CQC-registered laboratories. A blood test like this can help you spot changes early and track your health year on year, but it is not a substitute for medical advice; speak to your GP about any health concerns.
