WHEN TO TAKE THE TEST?
Collect your blood sample within 3 hours of waking and before food.
Understanding your heart health is key to preventing serious conditions like heart disease, high cholesterol, and stroke. A heart health check can reveal critical insights about your cholesterol levels, triglycerides, and other markers that affect cardiovascular function.
Our 2025 research indicates that only 14% of Forth customers achieve a heart health score in the ‘Excellent’ range (above 90), underscoring the prevalence of hidden risks. The data also showed that cholesterol levels tend to increase with age, and post-menopausal women are almost twice as likely as premenopausal women to have high LDL cholesterol levels.
Regular heart blood tests help you monitor changes over time, empowering you to make informed lifestyle choices to protect your heart.
Who Should Test Their Heart Health?
Getting the insights you need to improve your health has never been easier.
In just a few minutes, collect a small blood sample from your fingertip using the easy-to-follow instructions in your kit. Use the prepaid Tracked-24 envelope to securely send it to our accredited lab.
Receive your heart health results within 2 working days of your sample reaching our lab. Access them in our mobile app, where you'll find key insights, a detailed report, and an optional doctor’s comment.
Your results highlight areas for improvement, helping you make informed lifestyle changes to lower cholesterol, reduce risk factors, and improve your heart health.
Only half of women and a quarter of men have cholesterol levels in the ‘Excellent’ range. HealthCoach gives you the power to change your heart health.
"According to the British Heart Foundation, one in eight men and one in fourteen women die from coronary heart disease (CHD) in the UK per year. It may also surprise you to learn that CHD kills more than twice as many women in the UK as breast cancer so it’s a big problem. Unfortunately, often the first symptom of CHD is a heart attack, at which point it’s a little late! Using our heart health test to check your risk means you’re in the best position to make changes and stave off any future problems."

What does the heart health check test?
Our Heart Health Check measures key biomarkers to assess your cardiovascular risk. It includes a cholesterol blood test, checking total cholesterol, LDL (“bad” cholesterol), HDL (“good” cholesterol), and triglycerides. High LDL and triglycerides increase heart disease risk, while HDL helps remove excess cholesterol. The test also calculates your HDL ratio, a key heart health indicator.
Beyond cholesterol, the test measures HbA1c (blood sugar levels) to assess diabetes risk and hs-CRP, which detects inflammation linked to heart disease. Uric acid is also included, as high levels can contribute to cardiovascular issues.
It also checks oestradiol (oestrogen) and testosterone levels, as hormone imbalances can impact cholesterol, fat distribution, and heart function. By assessing all these factors, the Heart Health Check provides a clear picture of your cardiovascular health, empowering you to take proactive steps to protect your heart.
Can blood tests detect blocked arteries?
Home blood tests can’t detect blocked arteries, but they give insights into biomarkers related to heart health and heart disease. If your results come back with a low score, you can take them to your GP to ask for more detailed tests, such as an ECG or angiography.
Can a blood test detect heart problems?
Yes, a heart health blood test can identify key risk factors for heart disease. It measures cholesterol levels, including LDL and HDL, which impact artery health and the risk of heart attacks or strokes. It also checks triglycerides, as high levels contribute to arterial stiffness and inflammation.
Beyond cholesterol, the test assesses long-term blood sugar levels and diabetes risk—both major heart disease factors, as well as inflammation linked to cardiovascular issues, and uric acid levels to help assess metabolic risks affecting heart health.
By analysing these markers together, this heart blood test provides a clear picture of your cardiovascular risk, allowing you to take proactive steps to protect your heart before problems develop.
What is a good resting heart rate (by age)?
According to the British Heart Foundation, an adult’s resting heart rate should be between 60 and 100 beats per minute. The more active and healthy you are, the lower your resting heart rate will be. However, resting heart rate is not a reliable indicator of overall heart health.
How often should I check my heart health?
For most people, we recommend taking a Heart Health Blood Test every 6 months to monitor key markers like cholesterol, triglycerides, and inflammation levels. Regular testing helps track changes over time, allowing you to take early action to improve your heart health and reduce your risk of heart disease.
If you have existing heart health concerns, high cholesterol, or a family history of cardiovascular disease, more frequent testing, such as every 3 to 6 months, may be beneficial.
For those over 50, heart disease risk increases, so more frequent testing (every 3 to 6 months) may be beneficial.
How soon will my test arrive?
If you order your Heart Health Blood Test before midday, Monday to Friday, your kit will be dispatched the same day. We send all kits via Royal Mail Tracked24, so your test should arrive within 1-2 working days.
How secure is my data?
We follow strict GDPR guidelines to protect your personal data. Access is limited to only those essential to delivering our service. For example, our doctors review your results, but once the review is complete, access is withdrawn. Your data is never shared without your consent.
Can someone take my blood for me?
Yes, if you prefer not to use the finger-prick test, we offer two alternatives:
We provide everything needed for the nurse or clinic, including a pre-paid envelope for returning your sample to our lab.
Does a doctor review my results?
Yes, our team of doctors and nurses carefully review all results. If any of your heart health markers fall outside the normal range for your age, they will provide a detailed comment and guidance on what to do next.
Can I download my results to share with my GP?
Yes, you can easily download your Heart Health Blood Test results from your health dashboard as a PDF to share with your GP for further discussion.
